Original Skannerz

Original Skannerz barcodes

In the original Skannerz only way to capture monsters or items and initiate battles is to scan barcodes. Skannerz is able to scan UPC-A and EAN-13 barcodes.

EAN-13 barcodes can encode 12 digits and check digit. UPC-A can encode 11 digits and check digit. Skannerz is only interested in a last 11 digits of the code (not including check digit).

Scanning process

Scanning can be initiated by going to "SCAN" or "HEAL" menu. Scanning should be performed by placing the scanner on the right or left side of the barcode (touching the surface) and steadily moving the scanner over the barcode in contant speed. When done correctly, all the valid and correctly read barcodes will initiate some action. You can also view video of the scanning from here.

Common reasons why the scanning fails:

  • Skannerz is not touching the surface
  • Skannerz is not moved at all when scanning
  • Scanning is started in middle of the barcode, not from the right or left side
  • Skannerz is moved in back and forth motion, not in one direction
  • Skannerz is not moved in constant speed over the barcode
  • Barcode type is not supported by Skannerz
  • Barcode exist in reflective material
  • Barcode exist in curved surface
  • Skannerz has close to empty batteries, that causes undervoltage and scanner stops working
  • Eye of the scanner is dirty or damaged

When barcode is scanned, one of the things can happen:

Skannerz has detected a barcode, but it does not trigger any action. It's likely that barcode has been read incorrectly.

Skannerz has detected a barcode and it triggers a action. This can be monster, battle or item.

Skannerz has not detected any action after three tries or scanning timeouts after 10 seconds. Scan should be reinitiated.

If none of the responses happen, Skannerz has not read barcode and it can't initiate any action.

Actions

When Skannerz detects a barcode, it tries to match the code to hard coded codes and code ranges. In "HEAL" scanning mode, only heal codes can be matched. Heal code can be any code that starts with "7459380" (all Radica products have this code).

In "Scan" menu code matching is more complicated:

  • Special codes for Exiles are matched. These start with "745938034".
  • Codes that have a 0-5 as the fifth digit from the end are matched as monsters. For example, code for Dragant could end with "30504". If the monster is from own tribe, it is captured and if from other tribe and Skannerz already has three non-fainted monsters, battle is initiated.
  • Codes that have a 6-9 as the fifth digit from the end are matched as items. For example, potion could end with "60940".

Monster codes

Codes of the monsters require the fifth digit from the end to be 0-5. This means that 60% of all the codes are monster encounters.

Monsters of the three tribes share a digit space from 000 to 999. Almost every monster has 7 possible codes (for example, Falco has a range of 000-007). Monster repeat in digit space in pattern Zendra, Pataak, Ujalu. Monsters in every tribe are not in order of their number but random or possibly based on an order of the cards in sheet included with a Skannerz. For almost every time when scanning a barcode, there is close to 33% chance of capturing a monster from your tribe and 66% chance of initiating battle.

Because there is 126 monsters total, the digit space of 1000 does not divide equally for every monster. Shegun from Pataak tribe and Nautilus from Ujalu have only four codes (992 to 995 and 996 to 999). These are the most rare monsters after Exiles.

Exiles are a special case with an only one code existing for every monster. Exile codes are 11 digits long but the first nine digits are Skannerz product code ("745938034") and only the last two digits are unique (from 81 to 92).

Item codes

Codes of the items require the fifth digit of the code to be 6-9. This means that 40% of all the codes are items.

Items exist in the digit space of 000 to 999 (1000 slots). Almost all the items have 40 possible slots (for example, "Ring of Speed" has a range of 000 to 039). Exception to this is "Poison potion" that has 80 slots (880 to 919 and 960 to 999).

Barcode matcher

You can use the following tool to match any barcode to one of the potential actions. Just select your Skannerz tribe and type barcode.
